Winter

A few pictures I've taken !
Clearing snow in the parking lot at work early in the morning.
We go for walks some noon hours, I got a little behind.
Okay, caught up!
Heavy snow fall - you can't see his metal pot hat!
The wind blew all night, next morning you can see the hat but his nose is gone! :-(

Prayer Letter January 2011

Dear Family and Friends,                             January 2011

We want to send you a note of thanks for your financial support over the past year and for your much needed prayers that gave us the strength to keep going each day even when it was hard.  We cannot do the work we do each day without you, Our Team, standing behind us. You have been our warriors throughout our years with NCEM since we started our ministry back in 1987.

We trust that you had a great Christmas celebrating the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and that you enjoyed great fellowship with many of your family members and friends. We pray this celebration was one that reminded you that we all need to remember this message all year long.  Jesus the Baby, at Bethlehem, is none other than our Savior who died on the cross for us to take away the sins of the world. This we need to share with our world today and everyday.

Back in September we said our regular prayer letter would be coming out hopefully soon. Boy, time flies when you are busy.  We want to say we are sorry that letter did not come out as soon as we had hoped.  But they say, “Better late than never.” The year has passed by, oh so quickly. 2010 is gone and another decade is upon us.  Happy New Year everyone, and may God shower you with many blessings throughout 2011.

One of the other reasons our letter is late, is because of an exciting change that is taking place in our lives. We have been restless and have been praying for God's leading in our lives over the past three years as to what His will is for us. When the Lord opened up the opportunity for us to go to Rwanda last spring, we thought upon our return we would be able to settle down and get back to the ministry here in PA full time and be at peace, but that never happened. After seeing God at work in Rwanda and seeing the hunger of the people there for the Lord, we left a part of our hearts there and have been feeling the call to return to Rwanda for a time of ministry, while we still have considerably good health. The Lord has opened some doors with Youth With A Mission (YWAM). They have a training base in Kigali, Rwanda, and if accepted we would be able to do a 6 month Discipleship Training School (DTS) that is required in order for us to join YWAM. During those 6 months we would also be able to learn some of the culture and some language. It is with much prayer and bringing this before the Lord, that we feel this is the direction He is leading us at this point and time. Pray with us as we send in our applications that we would be accepted as potential staff .

Our question to you our Prayer and Financial Supporters is, as the Lord moves us in a different direction in ministry for Him, will you consider moving in that direction with us? We will need to keep our support at around $3000.00 a month while in Rwanda. Before we go we need to have return tickets in place and the cost of the training. Then, we will need monthly support for the rest of the time we are there. We would be very pleased and thankful, not to mention truly blessed, if you, our long time ministry supporters, would help us minister in Rwanda.

Our history with NCEM looks a bit like this - In 1987, we were working in Paradise Valley, Alberta. It was in the spring, just before seeding and it was a slow cool spring. We wanted to go to the Spring Conference at the Nipawin Bible Institute, so because of the cool spring the bosses said that it would be alright for us to go. We are so glad they kept their promise, because that was a turning point for us, for the rest of our lives.

It was at that conference that God placed a call upon our lives for full time service with the NCEM, which has now been some 23 years. The first seven and a half years were spent in Watson Lake, Yukon, where we were the directors of the Hidden Lakes Bible Camp and served as Field Missionaries to the First Nations people in that area.

Then, in June of 1997, we were obedient to the leading of the Lord and packed up our family and moved to Prince Albert, SK where Diane became the editor of “Tribal Trails”, a TV Program, and Peter continued working in the camping ministry directing Big River and Pine Ridge Bible camps and also being camp coordinator for 6 years. After retiring from the camping ministry in 2007 Peter became the handyman at the headquarters offices in Prince Albert.

We are looking forward to what God will do in and through us in this new chapter of our lives, as we move towards going to Africa.

God is so amazing. He is always faithful and continues to lead and guide us. We are very excited about where He is leading us this year. Pray with us, as we prepare to go.

Some requests in relation to all of this:
- The transition from NCEM to YWAM,
- The prayer support from fellow believers,
- The financial support needed,
- Dealing with our possessions here,
- We will trust God in where He is leading us.

We are so glad that Our Heavenly Father already knows our needs, so for now we will leave it in His hands.

Love In Christ,
Peter and Diane Salmond

Finances

We are planning on starting a Dave Ramsey Financial Peace University class in our home this month. It will be to help others get a handle on the money that comes in and goes out of their house. We took it last year and it helped us a lot. We hope to help others.

Happy New Year - 2011!!!!!

Can hardly believe it is here!
I never thought that I'd see 2011.
A lot has happened in 2010.
The high lights:
John & Rachelle got engaged in Mexico in February.
May - Glenn & Gordon's collections were auctioned.
Peter and I went to Rwanda in May.
Another grandchild was born while we were there - Conner on May 24th.
Went to Alabama to visit him and his family in June/July. First time ever to miss Canada Day in Canada, and spend Independence Day in the US!
Jason & Becky, Nolan and Makenna came to visit in Aug.
Aug. 15, another grandson born, Matthias. Went to Alberta to visit him and his family and helped rebuild their front steps to their house.
In September I went and spent a week helping Becky after her surgery.
Started a Mystery Afghan with Bernat! That was something new and exciting that lasted till December.
Replaced our dishwasher in October.
